“It was just the most incredible day, we couldn’t have asked for anything more”
Mike & Lucy – Wedding at Gerakas beach, Lefkada
Getting married abroad has been something that we discussed for a while before making any actual arrangements or exploring possible locations and venues. We both share the same passion for traveling, hot weather and good food. Having spent quite a bit of time around Greece and some of the other islands, we knew that it would be the ideal venue for a wedding abroad. My now wife had been to Lefkas a few times before and we had been together the once. We both had great memories of the place and its wonderful scenery. We both felt this would be the ideal place for us to get married.
We had originally gone with another wedding company to organise it for us. After a few months and as the wedding got nearer, it became clear that this other company didn’t have their eye on the ball and we felt quite let down by them. Fortunately my mother in law came across Claire and Lefkas Weddings. From the get go she was completely on the ball, full of enthusiasm and couldn’t do enough to help and organise things. We were really impressed and Claire also made us feel really excited by it all as well, we could actually see a wedding starting to come together. It was quite late on with only a few months to go but Claire got straight on the case and I have to say did a fantastic job.
We got married on a Thursday but had booked two weeks off and had the week before the wedding out there. For us we wanted to make this a holiday and an experience that we could fully enjoy. We didn’t want to spend all our time planning and doing wedding bits. We obviously were keen to see the venue and various different bits that had been planned for the day but in terms of organising everything it was all taken care of for us, which was great. Having seen the venue and meeting all the people involved it only re assured us further that we had made the right decision and that we were about to experience something very special.
We had a great week on the run up to the wedding and all our guests started arriving from about a week before onwards. Everyone had already met each other prior to the wedding itself, we did the hen and stag do’s out there as well which was a lot of fun.
The Wedding day…
In the morning the guests accompanied Mike and Lucy on a morning swimming cruise with lunch and they returned to their hotel in the afternoon to relax and prepare for the evening celebrations.
Mike and the guests cruised over to Gerakas beach aboard the Ionian Star and waited expectantly in the late afternoon sunshine for Lucy to arrive in style by speedboat accompanied by her father and bridesmaids!
It made for a fantastic entrance. Arriving on that boat across and seeing it all setup on the beach was just a wonderful moment.
After the ceremony we all went back to Nidri and my wife and I took the speed boat to go for some photographs before arriving at the Pinewood restaurant on the boat. Again, another unbelievable moment! We then did the speeches, had some great food and I mean it really was fantastic the food. This was something that we really wanted to make sure of and we weren’t disappointed. Then we just all danced the night away with plenty of drinks to help all that food go down.
Lucy wore a bridal gown by Essence of Australia. She wanted something elegant but also comfortable and not too formal that would suit their beach wedding ceremony.
The six bridesmaids wore a pastel, floral, halter neck maxi dress from Asos. Funnily Lucy had bought it to wear herself to another wedding as a guest but decided the style was perfect for her bridesmaids instead!
Like Lucy, Mike wanted something that would suit the beach location and the colour and style of his Reiss suit was perfect for a summer wedding abroad.
Flowers and decoration…
Lucy’s bouquet was inspired by wild flowers and was arranged with pink roses and blue delphiniums. The bridesmaids held bouquets of gypsophila tied with ivory ribbon and the buttonholes complimented these. For the mothers there were wrist corsages of white lysianthus.
The couple choose a shabby chic style theme for their wedding day and they wanted the effect to be pretty, relaxed and informal. They worked together with Claire to define the styling for the Pinewood restaurant and the tree in the middle of the restaurant took centre place, being wrapped in soft fairy lights and with hanging tea lights from its branches. The tables were a compliment of neutral colours with wild flower inspired vases perfectly complimented the theme.
A world map was just an idea as we both like traveling together and thought be nice to incorporate that in to the wedding for the table theme.
It was just the most incredible day, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. It has left us with wonderful memories. We just wish we could do it all again. Claire was great and we really couldn’t recommend her more highly. She knows the island very well, is very honest and will give you a straight opinion on things and what will or won’t work. Considering the time she had to plan it and how much of a wonderful day it was, it makes it even more of an amazing job. For us getting married in Greece was completely the right decision we couldn’t recommend it more.
